What we do

Our vision is to have a financially literate community that has its consumer rights protected.

We do this by supporting people to take control of their finances and to make the best decisions for themselves and their whānau whatever their financial situation may be.

Using a strength-based framework we work together to find solutions to support whānau to alleviate financial stress, achieve their goals and work towards a more sustainable financial future.

The key benefits and outcomes that we seek for our clients are:

  • That their financial literacy, capability, well-being and resilience improves.
  • That they experience less financial stress / distress, as they gain more control over their finances.
  • That there is a reduction in unmanageable debt, and they can work towards a more stable and sustainable financial future.

How we do it

Our Financial Mentors meet one-on-one with clients, in person at our office in Balmoral, over the phone, via video call or in the community at local CAB offices in Onehunga, Grey Lynn and the CBD.

We assist with day-to-day finances, planning, debt relief & creditor negotiation. We also advocate for clients and also support whānau to navigate social systems (such as WINZ and IRD) to achieve better financial outcomes.

Most of our clients seek support when they are experiencing a financial crisis, and many are struggling to meet basic costs due to limited income or unmanageable debt. We are able to support clients with a number of debt solutions, including access to micro finance, creditor negotiations and insolvency options.
